Shred It Day today at Centre 2000
The Alberta Motor Association and Community Crime Prevention are teaming up to bring Shred It Day back to Grande Prairie today.
It will go from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m at Centre 2000.
Shelley Biendarra with the AMA in Grande Prairie says people can bring in documents for shredding in an effort to prevent fraud.
“Any items that you have that need to be shredded, you can bring down to us at Centre 2000. There’s a shred it machine there, you just sit in your vehicle, hand us the stuff and we put it through the shredder, two minutes, it’s done. It just really protects your identity.”
She adds items to be shredded can include anything that contains personal information.
“Your tax information from years past. Anything that has personal identity on it, so gas bills, heating bills, credit card bills, anything like that.”
Anyone who wants to can also bring a donation to the Food Bank.
Since Shred It Day started in 2007, 17,000 tonnes of documents have been shredded across Alberta. Food Bank donations have totaled 96,770 kilograms of food and $217,000.
