Grande Prairie CAO leaving position

Aug 21, 2018 | 3:55 PM

Bob Nicolay will be leaving his Chief Administrative Officer position for Grande Prairie for a role as CAO for the City of Medicine Hat.

Nicolay is no stranger to the position as he held the same one in the 90s. He took the Grande Prairie City Manager position in February 2017 when Greg Scerbak retired.

In an email statement provided by Mayor Bill Given, he says the council will be working on a transition plan.

“With Council’s full support, Bob has been a champion of unleashing the potential within our organization and has set administration on a path of continued success. We entrusted him to deliver on our priorities and to prepare the City for the opportunities of the future,” said Given.

He added that a process will be identified quickly to find a new person to fill his role.

The former CAO’s return to Medicine Hat was officially announced on Monday night.

“We are so pleased to see Bob return to Medicine Hat in this role. His extensive experience with the energy sector, business development and municipal government will be very beneficial for the City,” said Mayor Ted Clugston in a media release.

“We’re looking forward to tapping into his knowledge and expertise as they relate to the City’s priority initiatives.”

Nicolay will fill the shoes of Medicine Hat City Manager Merete Heggelund. She announced her retirement earlier this year.
