Television pilot featuring locals to premiere at GPLT
Actors and scenes from the Peace Region will be noticed this weekend during the premiere of Afterlight, a television show pilot.
The show tells a story of a small town that works to rediscover the true meaning of community when all electric power stops. Co-Creator and Director Rew Jones says there are some local cast members and some of the scenes were filmed in Sexsmith and Grande Prairie.
“Some of our main characters have been brought in from Calgary and Winnipeg, but all of the background performers you see; the secondary characters and some speaking roles are great local actors from Grande Prairie.”
Kathryn Kozody, Troy Lydiate, Chris Hills, Journey Gonzalez, and Connor Mullen star in this production. The local feel isn’t just on the screen but exists behind the scenes as well with just over half the film crew from the Peace Region. Calgarians make up the rest of the film team.
“It is fun to have our work out there and being watched. (I’m) looking forward to finding opportunities to take it further and show more people. The people who have seen it so far, which is a very limited number, have enjoyed it. We are hoping that continues,” said the Director.
The pilot was funded entirely by StoryHIVE, a Telus initiative, and will be shown on that network as well as Telus Optik T.V. and Youtube.
The screening will be held at 7 p.m. on August 25 at the Grande Prairie Live Theatre and Jones says he and his wife, Co-Creator Sarah Jones, will look for other opportunities to have the show viewed.
