Holiday travel time at the Grande Prairie Airport
It should be busy with holiday travelers at the Grande Prairie Airport this week.
CEO Brian Grant has some advice for anyone with a flight to catch.
“As we get moving closer to Christmas, it’s always nice to have people show up an extra half-hour early if they can. Remember not to wrap their gifts that they’re taking with them to their families because they’ll likely have to be unwrapped again when they get to security. Parking is a lot busier now than it has been over the last couple of years, so give yourself a little bit of time to walk just a little bit further.”
Grant says December has not been the busiest month of the year so far.
“This year, July has been our busiest month on record for the year, which is not typical. We usually we see December as the highest, but, so far, year-to-date, it’s been July.”
He adds having a second security line has helped speed things up.
“The second security line has pretty much eliminated all the line-ups that we have waiting for the main block and bank of flights during the afternoon and during the evening, so everything is flowing through there quite well.”
Grant says there had been some what he calls growing pains with a new checked luggage screening unit.
