Celtics ready for football semi-finals

Oct 26, 2017 | 12:18 PM

The St. Joe’s Celtics are undefeated this year, but coach Trevor Prichard still wants to keep egos in check for the semi-finals Saturday.

“We have had a strong season, and the boys have worked really hard. We are undefeated at this point,” he said.

“We have to not look past any of our opponents,” he said. This team has their eye set on provincials”

“At the same time, we know we have an opportunity in front of us to be the first team to win four MPFL Peace Bowls.”

The Peace Region has seen precipitation this week, but Grande Prairie has luckily staved off the worst of it.

There is currently a chance of showers Saturday, with a sunny outlook.

But regardless of what comes their way, Prichard says the Celtics need to be ready to battle in any conditions.

“That’s part of football in the north and part of football in Alberta in general. Everybody’s gotta play in the same weather, and everyone has to prepare the same way.”

Prichard sees a worthy opponent in Valleyview, and it should be an interesting matchup.

“Well I mean they’re well-coached and they do a really good job with their team and their organization,” he said.

“That team has really improved over the last five years. We always have to watch out … We don’t rest on our laurels and take everybody seriously.”

The Celtics and Valleyview play at CKC Field on Saturday at 11 a.m.
