Grande Prairie Heart and Stroke office closing its doors

Aug 17, 2018 | 1:32 PM

The Heart and Stroke office in Grande Prairie will be closing its doors in one weeks time.

As of the August 24th, the branch will be amalgamated with offices in Edmonton and Calgary says spokesperson Anita Pieterse.

“This decision is being rolled out across the country and really it is about reducing our costs so that more of our generous donations from Canadians can go to our mission priorities. So, funding and research, health education and advocating for health and policies.”

She says while two staff have been let go, one person will remain in the Coordinator, Fund Development role.

“So, having home-based offices, it is kind of the way of the future and so people will still be able to meet with the representative from Heart and Stroke, but it will be at a coffee shop instead of an office building.”

The annual Ladies in Red Fashion Show will no longer take place in the city, but there will continue to be Jump Rope for Heart.

This is the second charitable organization to recently stop operating in Grande Prairie, the Canadian Cancer Society closed its Grande Prairie office May second, 2017.
