Senior among five people charged in High Prairie drug bust

Jan 24, 2018 | 2:45 PM

Five people, including a senior, have been arrested and charged in High Prairie after a drug bust.

On Monday, the High Prairie Integrated Drug Unit and High Prairie RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the town.  Investigators seized approximately 50 grams of cocaine prepackaged for the sale on the streets of High Prairie, marijuana, and cash.

Seventy-two-year-old Frank Hagel, 62-year-old Eleanor Louise Okemow, Quinn Cunningham (19), Brandon Munro (19) and James Badger (18), have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of marihuana and property obtained by crime.

The five accused were released from custody and are due in High Prairie Provincial Court on February 18, 2018.

Corporal Chris Warren says drug activity isn’t just happening in the cities or larger centres.

“This is an issue in a lot of communities in our area and if you’re seeing stuff that’s suspicious in your neighbourhoods, then we’d always advise you to contact us.”

He says cooperation between the RCMP and the public is instrumental to the success of local crime reduction efforts.

“We need the public to help us out and if they’re seeing stuff that doesn’t seem right, by all means, give us a call and we can help reduce crime in our communities.”

To report suspicious activity, call local RCMP, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
