Freezing rain warning ENDED for Grande Prairie

UPDATE 9:00 a.m.: The freezing rain warning has ENDED for Grande Prairie

4:30 a.m.: We are under a freezing rain warning.

Environment Canada says the rain will fall Friday morning over the Grande Prairie and Whitecourt regions and move towards Edmonton this afternoon.

The government agency is warning that highways, roads, sidewalks and parking lots could be slippery and to drive with caution. The area could also see 2 to 4 centimetres of snow Friday.

At the same time, local RCMP are also reminding motorists to drive to the conditions and

•           Reduce your speed.

•           Increase following distance.

•           Check weather and road reports prior to departure.

•           Leave earlier to allow extra travel time.

•           Clear the ice and snow from vehicles.

Mounties say over the last few days they have been called out to a high volume of collisions both in and around Grande Prairie.
