Lights going in at Evergreen Park entrance
The County of Grande Prairie will start installing traffic lights today at the main entrance to Evergreen Park.
Public Works Director Dale Van Volkingburgh says there will be some other things done as well.
“The traffic lights will be installed. There’s also going to be some concrete medians installed to do lane separations for turning lanes and what-have-you.”
He adds this should improve safety.
“Council directed a review of that intersection for the traffic and felt it was safer to have signalization at that location for entering into Evergreen Park (and for) the traffic crossing Resources Road from Highway 668.”
Volkingburgh says while new lights will help with day to day traffic movement, it may not do much to help with heavy event traffic.
“Generally, the event traffic, Enforcement will go out there and they’ll move the traffic through whether it’s a red light or not. So, day-to-day traffic, this will support it, even a minor event. The large events like Stompede will still need assistance to keep the traffic flowing.”
There could be some traffic delays while the work is being done. The speed limit will be reduced and there could be one lane of alternating traffic at times.
The project is expected to take until early October complete if the weather cooperates.
