Update: According to Cox, they plan to release the healthy bear later today, south of Grande Prairie.

Alberta Fish and Wildlife have captured an approximately three-year-old grizzly bear in O’Brien Provincial Park.

Brendan Cox, spokesperson for the enforcement branch says one of the live traps set up in the area was triggered on Thursday afternoon. He says they believe the bear they trapped is the same one that was feeding on a carcass a few days ago that forced the closure of the park.

Fish and Wildlife will now look at the animal’s health including the teeth and make sure it is hydrated. The bear will also be tagged before it is potentially moved back into the wild.
