Province looking to recognize local people for crime-prevention initiatives

Jan 20, 2018 | 7:38 AM

The Alberta government is looking to recognize people and groups that put effort into crime-prevention initiatives.

The Alberta Community Justice Award nominations are open until February 20, 2018. Acting Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Marlin Schmidt explains that the person or group nominated can work in a related sector.

“Any person or organization that is involved in projects that deal with victim services, youth justice, restorative justice or any other crime prevention effort can be nominated.”

There are categories for the awards including leadership, innovation, service enhancement, community mobilization, and partnerships and collaboration.

“It is always important to say thank you for good work that it is being done. We know there is a lot of work being done at the grassroots to make communities safer and we hope by recognizing the good work people are doing, we can encourage others to take up that good work too and get involved.”

Nomination forms are available here on the Government of Alberta website.

The award ceremony will take place in June 2018 in Edmonton.
