Incumbents re-elected in the County of Grande Prairie

Oct 18, 2017 | 7:12 AM

Voter turnout was down in the County.  It was 21.4 percent this year, compared to 25 percent in 2013.

There were some close races, but all the incumbent County of Grande Prairie Councillors that ran again were re-elected.

That includes Leanne Beaupre, who had been serving as Reeve.

“You know, I think my opponent (Barry Yaehne) did a very good job of going door-knocking and people recognize his face, so I think there was an opportunity for him to pick up a few votes.”

She adds she intends to seek the job of Reeve again.

“Other than the one seat that was left vacant, we have the same council. We work very well together, a very cohesive group that works well. I think that (people will) see there’ll most likely be the same organizational (structure in place) that we’ve had in the past.”

Council will decide who will be Reeve at its next meeting. Beaupre adds the upcoming budget will be one of the bigger things council will have to deal with.

“The government has tasked us with doing five-year budget plans, right? So, we’ve been doing our forecasting now for a couple of years, so we’ve got a lot of our larger projects that we’ve identified, mainly around infrastructure. Investment in infrastructure, roads, and bridges, has already been identified.”

Linda Waddy will represent Division 7, replacing Brock Smith who did not run again.
