The crowd in a Grande Prairie courtroom included more than two dozen on-lookers as five people charged in connection with the murder of Hannah Sutton made their first appearances.

All appeared via closed-circuit television.

Justice Watt-Blais, who has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Sutton, and David Comber, charged with accessory after the fact to murder, are due back in court January 22.

Three others, Auston Haynes, Darian Chonkolay and a young offender, are all due back in court January 17 on accessory charges.

Haynes is also facing five counts of breach conditions and three drug possession charges in a separate case, which is also due back in court on January 17.

All the adults are being held in Peace River, the youth at the Edmonton Young Offenders Centre.

Sutton was found dead in a home near 100 Street and 94 Avenue December 16.
