Trial ordered in suspected hatchet attack

Jan 19, 2018 | 12:42 PM

Alberta Justice says a man charged after what RCMP called a hatchet attack has been ordered to stand trial.

Ronald Ernest Gauthier’s preliminary hearing was held Tuesday in Grande Prairie court.

The Leduc County man will stand trial on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public after originally being charged with attempted murder.

A date for that trial has not been set.

He was arrested in April of last year after a man was found with injuries outside of a residence on the east side of Grande Prairie.

At the time, police said the injuries were a result of being attacked with a hatchet.
