Province looking to expand Twin River Heritage Rangeland Natural Area

Aug 4, 2018 | 9:48 AM

A conservation group is praising the province’s proposal to expand the Twin River Heritage Rangeland Natural Area in southwestern Alberta.

The government proposal aims to protect endangered grasslands in the Milk River Ridge area.

The Alberta Wilderness Association says native grasslands are under potential threats from oil and natural gas exploration.

The association says native grasslands are only about five per cent of Alberta’s land base, but support 70 per cent of mammal, bird, reptile and amphibian species considered at risk or may be at risk.
