Canucks draw first blood in NPHL final

Matt Schmermund’s goal at the 11:53 mark of the third period stood up as the winner as the Dawson Creek Canucks edged the Grande Prairie Athletics 3-1 in game one of the NPHL final on Saturday night. 

Brett Norman and Kevin Hope also scored for the Canucks, who out shot the Athletics 34-33 on the night. 

Devin Bell had the lone goal for the A’s, who will host game two of the series on Tuesday night.
