Grande Prairie Storm host annual Teddy Bear Toss game against Crusaders.

Nov 30, 2018 | 9:03 AM

A blizzard of bears is in the forecast for Revolution Place this Saturday as the Grande Prairie Storm host their annual Teddy Bear Toss game against the Sherwood Park Crusaders.

The annual event is a popular one amongst fans as it is the one time a year, they are encouraged to toss stuff onto the ice.

“It’s a blast,” stated Storm Business Manager Eric Hein. “It’s an exciting event which you can look forward to.”

The idea of the Teddy Bear toss started back in 1993 with the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers and now the idea has spread across the country at the Junior ranks.

Anyone who is planning on attending the game Saturday is encouraged to bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to the game, but if you are unable to there will be some for purchase.

Fans are also encouraged to be in their seats for the start of the game too, because as soon as the Storm score their first goal, the flurry of fur will commence, and fans can chuck their stuffed animals on the ice.

All the stuffed animals/bears will be donated to kids at the QEII Hospital.

“It’s an opportunity for us to give back to the hospital community,” noted Hein. “At the end of the day we are trying to be more involved in the community. We are making a real effort to be involved with the schools and the community. This is an opportunity for our fans to come alongside us and really enable us to have an effective positive impact in the community.”

The Storm will be delivering the toys and stuffed animals to the hospital on Monday.

Puck drop for this Saturday’s Teddy Bear Toss game against the Sherwood Park Crusaders is at 7:30 p.m.
