Storm return home from Fort McMurray with split

Mar 9, 2019 | 7:10 AM

The Grande Prairie Storm were 4:04 away from taking a 2-0 lead in their best of 5 opening round playoff series with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

However, the MOB had different ideas, as Jarred White scored to tie it late in the third, and Brendan Stafford scored 35 seconds into overtime to give the home team a 2-1 win, evening the series at 1.

Xavier Pouliot got the Storm on the board at the 11 minute mark of the first period, set up by Zach Okabe and Alexis Girard.

Kaeden Lane made 26 saves in the Storm net, while Chris Curr made 23 stops for Fort McMurray.

The Oil Barons almost won the game in regulation time, as a late shot by Taner Miller beat Lane, but did not beat the game clock, as the officials ruled that the final buzzer went before the puck entered the goal.

Game three of the series is Sunday night at 7:30 at Revolution Place, while game four is Monday night, also in Grande Prairie.

Storm fans attending either game are encouraged to wear yellow to support the team.
