Bear Creek Outdoor Pool will not open for August Long Weekend

Aug 1, 2018 | 2:12 PM

The City of Grande Prairie has yet to lock down an official opening date for the Bear Creek Outdoor Pool.

Although most of the features seem to be complete, the city has provided the following statement via email.

“The City has been informed of construction delays that will impact the planned opening of the Bear Creek Outdoor Pool. We know that this is a disappointment to the community and share your eagerness to have this facility available for public use. We will keep the community updated on our progress and on a future opening date once the construction and commissioning process is complete.”

The city says it will not have any additional information regarding the opening date and could not comment if the delays were associated with rain.

Fees for admission were set in early July. The completion date was also pushed back at that time. Crews were aiming to open the facility by mid-August by the latest, now it is up in the air.

The pool was built in 1962, but it closed in 2013 when a large crack was found in the basin. Construction on the $4.5-million upgrade began in Fall 2017.
