Two serious crashes leave one man dead, another in serious condition

Aug 1, 2018 | 1:07 PM

Spirit River RCMP say one person is dead and another had to be airlifted to hospital after two serious crashes Tuesday.

A 74-year-old man died when the tractor he was operating collided with a semi near the junction of Highway 49 and Range Road 110 near Gordondale at around 4:40 p.m.

Police say the semi was trying to pass when the tractor, which was pulling a load of hay, started turning left. The semi driver was not injured.

At 3:43 p.m., a pickup and semi collided at the Woking turnoff on Highway 2.

Mounties say a pickup westbound on Highway 763 collided with an unloaded semi going south on Highway 2. The driver of the smaller truck, an 84-year-old man, was in serious condition when taken to an Edmonton hospital by STARS. The other driver was not hurt.

Both collisions remain under investigation.
