Area road conditions improve in some areas following freezing rain

Jan 17, 2018 | 5:09 AM

Update (9:05 a.m.): We are now hearing reports Highway 40 about 25 km south of Grande Prairie is “a solid sheet of ice” and traffic is crawling.

Traffic is flowing on Highway 40 south of Grande Prairie again, following extremely icy road conditions Tuesday night that caused a multi-vehicle collision.

RCMP say it happened at the Cutbank River and at the time did not recommend travel in that area due to the freezing rain.

Officers also noted several vehicles in the ditch.

According to 511 Alberta and social media posts Wednesday morning, Highway 40 driving conditions have improved as have Highway 43 to Valleyview.

Conditions appear to worsen after Debolt.
