ABP urging ranchers to push for TPP

Jan 16, 2018 | 4:02 PM

Alberta Beef Producers and the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association want ranchers to help push Canada into being part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

In its most recent Grass Routes newsletter, ABP is encouraging producers to contact cabinet ministers to talk about the importance of Canada being a part of a trade deal with other countries that surround the Pacific Ocean.

Beef groups are worried Canada will be left behind when it comes to trade and be what it calls “tariffed out of the Japanese market.”

ABP adds Canada joining the trade deal would lead to an immediate 11.5 percent decrease in tariffs, something that could see exports grow by more than $200-million.
