Author to make presentation during National Addictions Awareness Week

To raise awareness during National Addictions Awareness Week, a Grande Prairie-raised author will be making a presentation next week. 

Taylor Mulder, a recovering drug addict, was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 18. He became dependent on opiates and used other drugs “to escape”.

He says even with the alarming rate of fentanyl-related deaths, people are still using regardless of the risks.

“When I got help when I did, it really opened my eyes. I mean, I got out at the right time. I wanted to do something with my life to bring (something into) the community, and into the world, that can help others,” says Mulder.

“To bring awareness to, ‘if I can do it, anybody can’.”

He recently published a book called Wake Up or Die which is about his life.

“What I wanted to do is shine a light on my life story as an addict and give the perception to the world that not every addict in your everyday street junkie. Addicts are just normal people that can really get better and do well with their lives,” says Mulder. 

He is hoping he can connect with others. 

Mulder will present at a free event on Thursday, November 29 at 7 p.m. at City on 99th. There are limited seats and people must register through Eventbrite. If you plan to purchase Mulder’s book, they are being sold for $20, cash only.
