FireSmart burning southeast of Grande Prairie

Nov 6, 2018 | 6:05 AM

County of Grande Prairie fire crews will be conducting controlled burns southeast of the city for several weeks as part of its FireSmart program.

Crews have been gathering and removing over mature spruce and dead fall on Crown land and will set fire to remaining piles of debris in an effort to reduce the risk of wildfires.

“The County’s FireSmart initiatives are a proactive approach to minimizing the potential for wildfire in more populated areas and higher risk areas,” said County Community Services Director Dan Lemieux. “We’re really proud of this work, which has been underway since as early as 2010.”
