Court Update: New trial dates in Halliburton shooting, jail time given after drug bust

Nov 20, 2018 | 1:08 PM

A trial for the man charged after a 2015 shooting incident at the Halliburton facility in Clairmont will take place more than five years after the shooting happened.

Alberta Justice says the trial for Panagiotis Michalakakos will now take place October 7 to 18, 2019.

It was supposed to be held in March, but Michalakakos did not show up for court and a warrant was issued.

He was arrested after shots were fired at the building the evening of March 31, 2015.

No one was hurt, but several buildings were placed on lockdown. Two employees hid inside until the situation ended.

Jail time in drug bust

Alberta Justice says a man charged after a drug bust in the Country Side South neighbourhood in 2016 has been handed a two-year jail sentence.

Abdulmalik Hassan was also given a  $200 fine and a 10-year firearm prohibition November 16 in Edmonton Court of Queen’s Bench.

Hassan pleaded guilty to charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He had been facing a total of nine drug and firearms-related counts.

Police said at the time that a month-long investigation led to a search of a home November 23, 2016.

A stolen handgun, crack cocaine, crystal meth., more than 2000 fentanyl pills, and $9000 cash were seized during that search.
