Appeal discontinued for county development plan: city council wrap

Nov 5, 2018 | 6:45 PM

Just weeks before the budget talks start at city hall, Grande Prairie council kept their bi-weekly regular meeting short and sweet.

Council members were in and out of chambers in under an hour. During that time, they decided to discontinue the Municipal Government Board Appeal of the Correction Line West Area Structure Plan. The plan had been previously adopted by the County of Grande Prairie. It was regarding the land south of Township Road 710 and east of Range Road 64.

“In the coming year, the City and County will begin developing updated land use planning and delivery of service agreements as required by provincial legislation. Getting to the work of an updated Intermunicpal Development Plan (IDP) and the development of an Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF) is in the best interest of our region. Discontinuing this appeal allows us to focus our energy on delivering a comprehensive framework for the delivery and funding of services that benefits all our residents,” said Mayor Bill Given in a written statement following the meeting.

The statement also said the county and city councillors will initiate ICF talks with help from a provincial facilitator on December 11, 2018.

The Notice of Appeal was submitted in August 2018.
