Partnership announced between Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundations

Nov 18, 2018 | 7:23 AM

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation is partnering with the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation to bring the Stollery level of care for children closer to the region.

The goal is to raise $1.5 million as a two-year sub-campaign to the regional hospital foundation’s $20 million Key to Care Campaign.

“The one thing that makes it so valuable to our community is that it brings a level of care to our community which we would normally not have.” stated Keith Curtis, Executive Director for the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation. “It allows patients to experience that Stollery level of care in our own community.”

“A lot of times with a regional hospital such as ours, there may be things that our hospital can not do, and a number of kids would be E-vacd to Edmonton.” added Curtis.

The announcement was made Saturday at the Festival of Trees Gala.

Just last year alone, The Stollery Children’s Hospital responded to 737 pediatric visits from Grande Prairie, including 67 pediatric transports.

“Those patient visits included, in-patient visits, emergency visits, day surgery, as well as ambulatory or out-patient visits.” said Mike House, President and CEO of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Major pediatric surgeries will still be done at the Stollery, but more follow up appointments and mental health support will be available through Grande Prairie’s new hospital.
