The Grande Prairie Athletics have stolen home ice advantage and have a chance to win the North Peace Hockey League championship on Thursday after a 4-1 win on the road in Dawson Creek Tuesday night.

Morgan Maclean opened the scoring for the Athletics in the first period to give the visitors the early advantage.

Grande Prairie’s one goal lead would carry over all the way into the 3rd period where the Athletics would extend their lead at the 4:40 mark thanks to Sam Bosek.

The Canucks would finally break through almost four minutes later as Matt Schermund would rifle a shot into the top corner past Kiefer Smiley to cut the deficit back to one.

However, despite the goal, the Athletics would regain their two-goal lead thanks to a goal from Mackenzie Caron.

Athletics leading scorer Dennis Rix would score the empty netter and secure the 4-1 win for the Athletics.

With the win Grande Prairie leads the best of seven series 3-2.

They will have a chance to clinch the league title Thursday night at the Coca-Cola Centre in Game 6.

Puck drop is at 8:30 p.m.
