Former Storm forward Zachary Okabe can now officially call himself a Canadian.

Okabe announced on his Twitter page today that he has received his Canadian Citizenship, nearly eight years after his family had settled in Okotoks.

The 18-year-old has had a much-travelled life. He was born in Japan, and has also lived in Australia, Thailand and the United States, before calling Canada home in 2011. Okabe previously held citizenship in Australia, where his mother hails from.

Okabe spent the last two seasons with the Storm, amassing 53 goals and 115 points in 118 games during his time in Grande Prairie. He will be suiting up for the St. Cloud State Huskies next season in the NCAA, the same school his father, Bob, played at in the early ‘90s.
