Vandals, thieves target election signs in the Peace

There are reports from across Alberta about provincial election campaign signs being vandalized.

In a post on her Facebook page, Central Peace-Notley New Democrat Marg McQuaig-Boyd says her signs have been vandalized and stolen by what she calls “a small number of individuals” in and near Fairview and Hines Creek.

She goes on to say these actions are not hurting her campaign, but are bullying and harassing the campaign’s volunteers. She adds she knows that this type of thing is not typical of the people who live in that area .

NDP candidates from Edmonton have reported having swastikas and bad language plastered on their signs.

There have also been reports of racist vandalism from an Alberta Party candidate in Calgary.

Leduc RCMP say they are also investigating vandalism incidents on election signs in that community. They add that this is considered mischief and could lead to Criminal Code of Canada charges.
