Parkside Inn Improvements

Parkside Inn improvements coming along nicely

Apr 2, 2019 | 12:00 PM

The Parkside Inn is in the process of getting some improvements.

The Inn is currently being used as a supportive housing facility and the upgrades are expected to improve safety, operations and the looks of the facility.

Interim Supervisor for Crime Prevention Kristi Lea says currently the facility is about half way there when it comes to receiving all its recommended improvements.

“For the recommendations made through Crime Prevention as well as Safer Communities and Neighborhoods, we have seen a drastic improvement in the recommendations created,” says Lea. “I would say we’re looking at about 50 percent of the recommendations so far. Their timelines outlined aren’t until summer, so they’re doing fantastic.”

Some of the upgrades include improving light adjacent to the site, which has been completed by ATCO. Other improvements that have already been completed are adding more cameras to the facility’s existing security system, and having staff walk inside and outside the building on an hourly basis.

Upcoming improvements for this spring and summer are increasing the height of the existing wooden fence to 10 feet, increasing lighting within the site, beautifying the perimeter of the facility, and installing some on-site recreation. Crews are also currently working on cleaning up the courtyard and perimeter of debris.

Lea says the improvements have been met with positive feedback.

“We’ve received information saying that there’s some really great improvements that are occurring on the site. Staff are happy to be able to implement some of those recommendations that are been made, and the community is very happy with the recommendations that have been implemented.”

Lea adds all the recommended improvements should be completed by this summer, and currently there’s no foreseeable roadblocks in the way of completing the project.
