Apr 4, 2019 | 5:08 PM

Alberta Justice says a Grande Prairie man charged after a drug bust in May of last year has been given jail time.

David Guilbeault was handed a three-year sentence Tuesday in Grande Prairie court after pleading guilty to two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two more of possession of a controlled substance, and one charge of being in possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.

Fourteen other drug and weapons charges were withdrawn. Guilbeault will be given six months credit for time already spent in custody.

Co-accused Mandy Dawn-Jean Wilks admitted to a reduced charge of possession of a controlled substance after originally facing a possession for the purpose of trafficking charge. She was given a $750 fine.

They were arrested after a search of a Grande Prairie home May 9, 2018 turned up cocaine, heroin, magic mushrooms, firearms, and cash.

Second man sentenced after 2016 ALERT bust

Alberta Justice says another person arrested after a 2016 ALERT bust in Grande Prairie has now been sentenced.

John Wilson was given a two year conditional sentence March 25 after pleading guilty to three charges related to firearms and possession of stolen property. Conditional sentences are served in the community under strict conditions.

On October 26, 2017, Allen Connal was given a 32-month sentence after pleading guilty to three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

All charges were withdrawn previously against Lydia Dafoe and Karmen Singh Grewal.

The group was arrested after a search of four homes in Grande Prairie on November 16, 2016 turned up drugs, cash, a handgun, and two shotguns.

Police said at the time there were three children living in a home where cocaine and an unsecured, loaded shotgun were found.

The kid’s parents were also arrested, but their names were never released.
