Apr 9, 2019 | 12:37 PM

The City of Grande Prairie is reaching out to its business community to help develop a brand new Economic Development Strategy.

The strategy is being put in place to help with future growth of the city, explained Senior Economic Development Officer Rebecca Leigh.

“The city has engaged with an external consultant (MDB Insight Inc.) to develop a long-term economic development strategy, and that is to guide the city’s activities when it comes to looking at business attraction, investment attraction, and also retention and expansion.”

To help develop the new strategy, the external consultant will be reaching out to local businesses from now until April 19 to conduct survey’s and receive feedback.

“We are just looking to chat with them about some of the challenges which they have seen with their businesses, some great successes, and anything which may be coming down the pipeline which may impact them positively or negatively. Helping to make sure we are prepared for the things that we can address what the businesses are seeing out there,” added Leigh.

The firm is hoping to interact with close to 500 businesses.

Once the survey is complete, the consultant will be working with the city’s economic development staff to review the completed surveys and identify potential opportunities for Grande Prairie moving forward and arising challenges.
