ELECTION 2019

TOEWS, Travis (United Conservative Party)

Apr 9, 2019 | 1:29 PM

1. Why should eligible voters cast a ballot for you?

Experience – integrity – Commitment

Being raised on the family farm in the Beaverlodge area and then growing and managing both the family cattle operation as well as an oilfield environmental company, I believe I have a unique perspective on two of the industries that power Alberta’s economy. In raising our family, my wife, Kim, and I have benefited from this province and region’s freedom and opportunity. These fundamental values that have provided so well for Albertans in the past have been eroded by the NDP government with their layers of regulation and addition of new taxes that are squeezing families and pushing investment and jobs out of the province.

As a Chartered Professional Accountant, I was involved in a private accounting practice in Grande Prairie for over ten years. I am keenly aware of the failed economic policies of our current NDP government and know that we have to get our fiscal house in order rather than borrowing more money against the future of the next generations.

I have been involved in various boards locally and provincially and, in 2010, served as the President of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association. During my time with the CCA, we worked at an international level on issues around agricultural trade and market access for Canadian products.

I am committed to the Peace Region and to this province and would welcome the opportunity to add my experience to Jason Kenney’s UCP team to ensure that freedom and opportunity are restored to this province both for today and for future generations.

2. If elected, what is the first thing you would want to accomplish?

The United Conservative party has been clear that it’s first priority is getting our economy working again by introducing legislation that will restore investor confidence and create an environment for business where jobs can be restored. This is why, under a UCP government, Bill 1 will be the Carbon Tax Repeal Act which will scrap the NDP’s $1.4 billion tax on everything, create 6,000 jobs, and allow Alberta families and job creators to keep more of their own money. We will implement the Job Creation Tax Cut to lower the tax burden on employers from 12% to 8%, creating 55,000 jobs and growing our economy by $12.7 billion. Bill 2 is the Open for Business Act which will give Alberta’s workers more freedom, restore their right to a secret ballot, and bring balance back to Alberta’s labour laws to get job creators investing in Alberta again. It is essential that we restore investor confidence in Alberta and so the UCP is proposing the Red Tape Reduction Action Plan designed to cut red tape by one-third to reduce costs and speed up approvals, freeing job creators to get more Albertans back to work.

We have a bold plan and a strong leader that will stand up for Albertans. I would be honored to have your vote on April 16.
