Drillers begin prep for 2019 campaign

Apr 11, 2019 | 12:15 PM

The Grande Prairie Drillers are beginning to prep for a new season and will have their first outdoor practice Thursday night.

Chad Weibe oversaw recruiting for the Drillers this season, and he revealed to EverythingGP numbers for the 2019 season have improved for last year.

“It’s looking a lot better. On paper we have about 55 names mixed with away guys. Some guys who are from here but live in Edmonton who will play our 5 away games. That was one of the big problems which we had was no one wanted to travel up to places like Fort Mac.”

With the expanded numbers and the change in culture around the team, Weibe added they are hoping to make their team more dynamic and have a more diverse playbook.

“We can implement stuff that everyone learned in High School and go off the cuff. However, we have some guys who have played with some BCFC teams and we are going to take some programs from there and just see if we can work a system with the personal which we get out.”

The Drillers will open the season on May 25th in Fort McMurray.
