Young students suicide connected to bullying

The Calgary Board of Education says it’s reviewing the case of a young student from Syria who killed herself after her parents said she was bullied at school.

The parents of Amal Alshteiwi say her school failed to act after they reported she was being bullied by classmates who said she was stupid, ugly and unloved.

The board says it’s working with the school principal to gather information from students and teachers to try to understand what happened.

It says it takes the case very seriously and strives to ensure its schools are safe and inclusive environments.
