19th annual 3D Charity Hockey & Soccer tournament begins Thursday at Coca-Cola Centre

Apr 25, 2019 | 8:15 AM

It’s a big weekend at the Coca-Cola Centre and the Eastlink Centre as the 19th annual 3D Charity Hockey and Soccer tournament takes place.

The three-day event helps raise money for students with serious illness.

The initial idea for the tournament came in 1999 when a student at the Grande Prairie Composite High School needed a heart transplant and the family had a difficult time keeping up with mounting medical expenses.

This year the event has received some amazing support as explained by Board Member Dennis Rix.

“We have 42 hockey teams and 28 soccer teams. Really good turn out and great to see the High School students really embracing it and working together for a really good cause.”

The hockey tournament portion begins today (Thursday) and the soccer tournament will fire up tomorrow (Friday).

Residents are encouraged to check out the tournament at both facilities as there will be plenty of silent auction items up for grabs.
