Islamic Association speaking out against Sri Lanka terrorist attacks

The Muslim community in Grande Prairie is strongly speaking out against the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka.

“We sympathize with the victims of these horrific attacks and offer our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones,” said the Islamic Association of Grande Prairie in a release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this extremely difficult time.”

The Islamic Extremist Group ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks, which included nine bombings of churches, luxury hotels and other sites on Easter Sunday, killing more than 200 people and wounding hundreds more in Sri Lanka’s deadliest violence since a devastating civil war in the island nation ended a decade ago. All catholic churches in the country have suspended religious services until further notice, for fear of further attacks.

The local association is pushing for those who carried out the malicious attacks to face the fullest extent of criminal prosecution. They state that those responsible deserve the most severe punishment, noting that the Holy Quran defines them as murders and terrorists.

The association says they stand united with all fellow Canadians in denouncing the attacks.
