More charges for Ginter

A complaint about break-ins at mailboxes in a Grande Prairie apartment building has led to drug charges against a local man.

Mounties say a search of the suspects belongings during the March 31 complaint turned up weapons and drugs.

Thirty-three-year old Michael Jeffrey Ginter is facing a total of 17 charges, which includes multiple counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, and failure to comply with conditions of release.

He is due in court May 6.

Ginter had faced charges that included murder and dangerous driving causing death after a 2016 incident at a local hardware store where a man died while trying to stop a truck thief.

The dangerous driving count and a reduced charge of manslaughter were dropped at Ginter’s trial in September after the Crown decided after the argument phase that the remaining evidence was below their standard for conviction.

Ginter was found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident where there is a death and also pleaded guilty to a possession of stolen property charge.
The credit he had built for time already spent in custody worked out to more than the sentence.

The Crown said at the time it felt frustration over the outcome.

Ginter was also given a 12-month peace bond after a 2017 incident where he had been facing two counts of threats to cause death and multiple charges of failure to comply with conditions.
