Bantam Draft

Peace River’s Spirig drafted by ICE in Bantam Draft

May 3, 2019 | 5:45 AM

There was just one Peace Country name called at this year’s WHL Bantam Draft, held Thursday in Calgary.

Carter Spirig was selected by the Winnipeg ICE in the eighth round, 169th overall. He joins Grande Prairie native Reece Harsch in the Manitoba Capital, after the 20-year-old defenceman was acquired by the ICE earlier in the draft.

Spirig played this past season with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers Bantam AAA team, where he put up 19 goals and 29 points in 33 regular season games. He added 5 goals and 13 points in the playoffs, helping the Rangers to a Provincial championship.
