Storm hosting Southern Spring Camp this weekend in Calgary

The Grande Prairie Storm are set to host their Southern Spring camp this weekend in Calgary.

The annual camp is set to feature a plethora of ’02 and ’03 born players, vying for a spot on the roster. General Manager Mark Bomersback says it is shaping up to be a very competitive camp, as the young players will be fighting for just a few roster spots.

“We’ll have four full teams of 12 forwards… six or seven D and two or three goalies on each team. So, I think there is about 86, 88 kids coming,” said Bomersback. “When we look at the ‘03’s, we can only have two that are qualified to play Junior ‘A’ next year. Will we have one? I don’t know yet, that’s to be determined.”

The team has recently filled three roster spots, including defencemen Cade Mason out of Red Deer and Raegan Wiles from Calgary. The team also added forward Sam Erkkila from Michigan yesterday. Bomersback says there are a few more names that could be announced soon, but did not specify whether they would be coming out of the camp or not.

“We’re excited to have those guys and we’ll announce a couple more here in the coming weeks,” said Bomersback. “Probably, and who knows, even a few more after that.”
