Police to crack down on impaired driving across the province during long weekend

Albertans are able to drink at provincial campgrounds this May long weekend, but police say that’s no excuse to drink on the road or drive under the influence.

Alberta RCMP, Sheriffs and Peace Officers are stepping up enforcement ahead of what they expect to be a busy Victoria Day long weekend.

Officers are already out on the roads, urging drivers to be safe yesterday during a checkstop operation near Cochrane.

Fish and Wildlife officials say they will also be out patrolling the backcountry to make sure off-highway vehicles aren’t quadding in streams or driving through restricted areas.
