County of Grande Prairie hires new CAO

May 23, 2019 | 5:40 AM

The County of Grande Prairie has looked to a neighbouring municipality to find its new chief administrative officer.

Joulia Whittleton will take over the post July 15 from the retiring Bill Rogan.

Whittleton held the same with Saddle Hills County the last several years.

“It’s a new challenge and new opportunity. I have been in public service for 20 years and I really enjoy working with council and staff and have worked in the past with excellent teams, (I) have an excellent team right now, had an excellent team in Mackenzie (County). (I’m) just looking for this new opportunity to build and help people in the County of Grande Prairie as well.”

She says one things she wants to work on is culture and work environment.

“Making sure that we continue having the best team and a healthy working environment and whatever priorities council sets for administration to move the County ahead, that would be my priorities and my team’s priorities to work on.”

Whittleton says she has known Rogan for many years.

“He has big shoes to fill and he has been a coach and mentor to many CAOs across the whole region, there’s no doubt. I’m sure looking forward to working with his team and could take any advice he could give me.”

Rogan announced plans to retire in January after 24 years with the County of Grande Prairie.
