Loewen named UCP caucus chair

May 27, 2019 | 5:30 AM

He says it is a humbling honour.

Central Peace-Notley MLA Todd Loewen has been picked as the caucus chair for the UCP.

“Obviously (I will be) chairing caucus meetings and there will be organizing the caucus meetings with the agenda and the other kind of activities that caucus does. I’ll be also working with the government whip and the government house leader, too.”

Loewen says he started campaigning for the job right after the election and no one ran against him.

“It’s selected by all the MLAs, so all the UCP MLAs have an opportunity to run either themselves or choose somebody else. Since I was selected, I thought it was a pretty good honour that they had confidence and the respect to have me as caucus chair”

Loewen says he started campaigning for the job right after the election and ran unopposed.

“Caucus chair is something that’s chosen by the MLAs within the caucus, so it’s a vote. I guess, maybe, after two months of campaigning for the election, I thought I just needed to campaign a little longer. It was a short campaign, just a couple weeks, then I was selected as caucus chair.”

Loewen says he could stay in the post until the next election, unless he is given other duties in the meantime.
