Evergreen Park Racing Club earns first win of season

Jun 3, 2019 | 9:09 AM

A local racehorse came away a winner this past weekend in Edmonton.

My Samurai Warrior, from the Evergreen Park Racing Club, took first place in a race held at Century Mile Racetrack on Sunday. He overtook Pakal, a horse owned by Darcy and Janet Hawkes of Grande Prairie, winning by 3 ¼ lengths.

The 10-year-old gelding overcame a slow start to take the victory with a time of 1:11.38, just .2 of a second off the track record, which was set just the day before.

It was the racing club’s first win of the season. Two other club horses raced on Saturday, as My Frank finished fourth while Mon Mousse finished in 11th.

All three horses are expected to race once more in Edmonton before they return to Grande Prairie for the Horses at Evergreen Park. The first race goes on July 6, and the season will go on weekends until August 25.
