Plenty of records shattered during NW Zone Track Meet

Jun 5, 2019 | 7:17 AM

It was a busy day at Legion Field Saturday as the site played host to the NW Zone Track and Field Championships.

The event was originally scheduled for Friday, but due to the smoke from wildfires across the province which had drifted into the Swan City, the Championships was delayed.

During the jam-packed event Saturday a total of 12 Senior High and 8 Junior High records were set.

Faith Blanchette of High Level had a strong performance at the meet.

The 17-year-old won four events (400m, 800m, 1500m, and 3000m) and set three new records in the intermediate women’s category.

On the boy’s side of things, it was Kobe Grocholski of Beaverlodge who stole the show.

Grocholski also won four events, claiming first place in 800m, 1500m, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay.

The top 2 athletes in each Senior High event qualified for this weekend’s Provincial Championship which is in Calgary.
