Struggle with clinical depression leads to three-book series by Peace Region-raised author

Jun 5, 2019 | 1:30 PM

An author raised near Crooked Creek says she was cured of clinical depression and it led to her writing a series of books.

Pearl Gregor has released the first two works in her Dreams Along The Way series.

She calls this series her memoir on clinical depression, psychiatry, and hearing voices.

“The depression was blackened. It was a terrible time. I went through the whole process of learning about dreams and learning about meditation and learning about really deep meditation and the depression was healed on February 7, 1989.”

She thinks her books will help many people.

“I don’t think they’ll heal clinical depression. I think people have to do that for themselves . But, I think it’s a tool and I think it gives people radical hope.”

The second book, called Authoring Self, came out a couple weeks ago and, at one point, was number one on one of Amazon’s Hot New Releases lists.

“Somebody sent me a message on Friday morning. I was in a workshop in Red Deer and I didn’t get it until Saturday. It said ‘Pearl Gregor’s book is Number 1 on Hot New Releases.’ I was pretty excited!”

The first book in the series, called I, the Woman, Planted the Tree, was published in December. The third, titled Cauldron of the Feminine, will come out this fall.

Gregor will be at a book signing from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Coles in the Prairie Mall. She will also be at the Valleyview Library Friday from to 2 to 4 p.m. and the DeBolt Library Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m.

She now lives near New Sarepta, Alberta.
