Wet weather on the way for the Peace Country

Jun 6, 2019 | 8:40 AM

Some much-needed rain is expected throughout the next few days in the Peace Country.

Meteorologist Dan Kulak with Environment Canada shares we should be getting at least a few centimetres.

“Thursday into parts of Friday we are going to get 15-25 mm of rain. Some moisture is on its way.”

With the rain comes colder temperatures and Kulak notes that is to be expected.

“Temperatures will be below the seasonal average. Obviously when the storms come in we tend to get much cooler temperatures during those wet periods.”

The average day time high for this time of year is 20 degrees.

However, despite the below average temperatures over the next few days, Kulak shares that early indications are that the Peace Country could be looking at a warmer than average summer.

“Generally, the summer outlook for June, July, and August for a good portion of Alberta is that it will be warmer than normal. Precipitation is a little harder to correctly predict.

Due to the rain in the forecast, the County of Grande Prairie will be lifting its fire ban as of noon Thursday.
