Two new playground areas opening soon in Grande Prairie

A couple playground areas in the city will be finished and ready for fun in the near future

Parks Planner with the city, Lindsay Juniper says they’re constructing a brand new swing pod in Maskwoteh Park.

“It has four regular belt swings and then four swings that are called expression swings. Those swings are a tot-bucket swing, but they’re also attached to a swing that an adult, or parent or larger child can sit in and they get to swing together. Which is really neat! It’s our first one that we have put in in the city.”

Across the city, work continues on the new playground space at Muskoseepi Park where the contractor is starting the installation of the protective surfacing.

Juniper says they don’t currently have a rubber tile system in Grande Prairie, so it was an opportunity to give that a try in Muskoseepi. Once installed, the 6675 square foot surface will allow for full wheel chair access.

“As well the playground does have both accessible features in it for wheel chair bound children, or those with sensory issues.”

He says they were fortunate to receive a grant from the government of Canada through the Enabling Accessibility Fund for $69,905.

The Maskwoteh Park should be finished within a week. The new park at Muskoseepi is slated to be open mid July.
