Airdrie man facing attempted murder and arson charges following domestic incident

AIRDRIE, Alta. – Charges of attempted murder and arson have been laid after an RCMP investigation into what police call a case of domestic violence in Airdrie, Alta.

Police say firefighters went to an apartment block Sunday evening when a caller said a woman had been seriously injured.

The fire was quickly put out and crews found a woman with severe life-altering injuries.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition, but her status has since been upgraded to stable.

A male whose name has not been released was arrested soon after the fire and remains in custody.

The accused, who also faces drug and weapons charges, is scheduled to be in Airdrie provincial court on June 20.
